Manuel Davila, an Indigenous 2Spirit artist and Coahuiltecan tradition keeper, is dedicated to preserving the ancestral practices of the San Antonio River and its Missions. Through the collection and cataloging of pigment minerals found along their native lands, Davila connects with their heritage and strives to uplift decolonial histories. Their artistic vision reflects a deep reverence for the land, the river, and the elders who have safeguarded their cultural traditions. Artistic Vision: Davila's artistic vision revolves around illuminating the decolonial histories of Yanaguana, the original name of the San Antonio River and the surrounding territory. By engaging in the meticulous process of gathering pigments from the Earth and the river, and transforming them into paints, Davila embarks on a journey that allows them to immerse themselves in the perspective of their not-so-distant relatives. Through their art, they aim to foster cultural pride and revive ancestral connections.
